It is possible to have a hole (cavity) in one of your teeth during regular dental checkups. You may already be bothered by this: You probably noticed that the tooth is more sensitive and can hurt, for example, when eating. The dentist fills this gap with special dental fillings. What is a filling in a tooth?

If tooth decay occurs, a cavity may form. It could also be that one of your molars has been damaged in another way, for example in an accident. With the filling, you prevent your teeth from hurting and further damage. A dental filling can also be damaged if, for example, it has a fracture in it. This can also be solved with a new filling.

There are different types of fillings. The dentist usually selects the least noticeable ‘white’ (tooth-coloured) fillings in your teeth. Composite is the most used material in fillings due to its natural color.

Tooth Extraction Treatment

Unfortunately, sometimes a tooth needs to be extracted. Tooth extraction may be necessary for several reasons. Whether it’s a wisdom tooth extraction or an accidental extraction, it’s often not the kind of treatment people look forward to.

Your dentist always discusses possible alternatives to prevent tooth extractions. Sometimes your tooth or molar can be saved with root canal treatment. If extraction is still the best solution, the dentist will discuss possible implant options to preserve the full functionality of your teeth.

What to expect with tooth extraction?

Before starting your treatment, it’s important to make sure it’s done as painlessly as possible. For this reason, the dentist will numb the extraction area before starting the treatment. Treatment will not begin until your dentist is sure that you are properly anesthetized.

Before the treatment, the dentist will check your X-ray to see if it is easy or difficult. When the dentist expects a difficult treatment, everything is prepared in such a way that the roots are “free” with a small surgical incision. You will not notice anything from this incision, what you will notice is that the dentist does not have to constantly pull your tooth. Treatment is still quick, painless, and relatively less painful after the shot. This facilitates a difficult tooth extraction.

Laminated Coatings

Root Canal Treatment

In root canal treatment, also called nerve treatment, the innermost living part of the tooth (pulp) is removed. The root canals are then more generously filed, disinfected and filled. Anesthesia is usually required for this treatment. It is a toothache condition caused by a recognized neuritis and root canal treatment relieves the pain. Sometimes the nerve is already dead and bacteria live in the root canals, causing an infection around the root tip. Root canal treatment is also a solution to treat these inflammations. Another reason root canal treatment is necessary is to provide extra support for the veneer or bridge. The root should be cleaned and filled almost to the root tip. Therefore, the dentist takes x-rays to evaluate the roots. An electronic device can also be used to determine the length of the roots. Since root canal treatment is very long, sometimes more than two hours, the treatment is usually scheduled in two appointments. After the first treatment, the tooth is filled with a temporary filling and disinfectant is usually applied to the root canals.

Implant Applications

Implants have different uses. The most well-known applications are an implant to replace a tooth or 2 or more implants as the basis for full dentures.
